Empowering Dalit Women, Transforming Communities

Dalit Women Forum (DWF) is a women led networking organization in Bangladesh dedicated to advancing the rights, dignity, and empowerment of Dalit women—one of the most marginalized and oppressed groups in the country. Founded with a vision to create a just, inclusive, and equitable society, DWF has been at the forefront of the Dalit rights movement, fighting caste-based and gender-based discrimination through advocacy, education, and community mobilization.

Our Working Area

Advocacy and Legal Reform

We actively campaign for the enactment of anti-discrimination legislation in Bangladesh to ensure protection and justice for Dalit communities. DWF collaborates with national and international networks to raise awareness about the realities of caste-based discrimination.

Collaboration and Alliance Building

In 2010, DWF helped establish the Bangladesh Dalit and Excluded Women Federation (BDEWF), a coalition of ten organizations working collectively to amplify the voice of Dalit women across Bangladesh.

Our work has gained international recognition. In 2010, Moni Rani received the Sir Sigmund Sternberg One World Action Award in London for her outstanding contribution to the Dalit women’s movement in Bangladesh.

What is the Dalit Women Forum (DWF)?

Dalit Women Forum (DWF) is a women-led networking organization in Bangladesh that works to promote the rights, dignity, and empowerment of Dalit women—one of the most marginalized groups in the country. It was established to combat caste- and gender-based discrimination through advocacy, education, and community mobilization.

What is the mission and vision of DWF?

DWF’s mission is to raise a strong voice for the rights, dignity, and equality of Dalit and marginalized women and ensure their empowerment through collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Its vision is to help build a just, inclusive society where neglected women live free from discrimination, violence, and exploitation.

When was DWF founded and how is it governed?

DWF was initiated in 2001 and officially registered in 2011 with the Department of Women’s Affairs in Bangladesh as "Dalit Nari Forum." It is governed by an Executive Council consisting of 11 members.

What are the key goals of DWF?

DWF aims to improve the quality of life for Dalit and marginalized women by promoting empowerment, leadership, skill development, and access to education. It seeks to build an equitable society where women and children enjoy full rights and dignity.
